Aoumi-nami Nuri finish is hand-combed by a skilled Maki-e artist to create the unique appearance of the Nakaya Portable Writer Blue Wave Painting – each pen created will be unique and requires a year or more to be produced.

Our complimentary nib tuning adjusts pressure and ink flow to your personal preferences, and our optional nib customizations can add to the character of your writing on the page and can also make this pen a valuable tool for calligraphy and other skilled handwriting techniques.

Each Nakaya Maki-e pen is hand-finished by skilled artisans in the town of Wajima on the west coast of Japan. Wajima has been a center for Maki-e work and urushi lacquerware production going back for centuries.

Nakaya pens use a convenient cartridge-converter filling system – each pen can use Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges, and can also use any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with a reusable ink converter, provided by us free of charge with your order.

Each Nakaya pen ships in a special softwood presentation box which includes a cloth pen kimono and starter pack of ink cartridges along with the converter. We are the sole authorized Nakaya dealer in the English speaking world.
