The history of the so-called lily of Florence is controversial. It seems that it originated from a white Iris, the Iris Florentina, which grew abundantly in the Arno Valley during the Florentine Republic and which the people called ghiacciolo or icicle, for its white, slightly bluish colour. The iris is not only a symbol of Florence, but also of its rich history and culture. The lily was adopted as the emblem of the city in the 11th century, when it was used to decorate the banners and shields of the Florentine soldiers. The lily also represents wisdom, courage and faith, qualities that have characterised Florence throughout the centuries.
The trim is rose gold plated and the nib is produced from 18ct rose gold and is available in a range of grades.
