YORK

The York pen has been inspired by The Cousins War which happened over 600 years ago- otherwise popularly known as the ‘War of the Roses.

The War of the Roses lasted over 30 years and was part of one of the longestcivil wars in English history.These wars were fought between supporters of two rival branchesof the royalHouse of Plantagenet, the House ofLancaster (who used a Red Rose emblem)and House ofYork (who used a White Rose).

The fight was for control of Henry VI, but later became a struggle for the throne itself after Henry VI died withno living heir. Both houses believed their claim to the throne to be stronger than the other.

The pen design is based on the House of York’s heraldic badge, the white rose.

It has antique brass trim which complements the satin floral design of the pen with the York roses emblem on the top disc, finishing off the pen beautifully. The emblem of the white rose was first adopted as a heraldic badge by Edmund of Langley, 1st Duke of York, whilst one of hisbrothers, John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster adopted a red rose. The last King to use the York rose was Richard IIIwhose body was found under a carpark in 2015 in Leicester!

Following the success of the War of the Roses York Pen, this new addition honours the fierce and enduring legacy of the Lancasterside in the legendary conflict that spanned over 30 years.

Fought between two rival factions of the royal House of Plantagenetthe House of Lancaster, symbolized by the iconic Red Rose, and the House of York, represented by the White Rosethe war was not only a struggle for the throne of England but also a battle for royal loyalty, and power.

The Lancaster Rollerball Pen has antique brass trim which complements the satin floral design of the pen finishing off the pen with the fiery Red Rose emblem on the top disc. The red rose wasfirst used as an emblem by Edmund, son of Henry III, in August 1265. The last Lancaster king was Henry VI, crowned at just 8 months old, he was not a popular King after marrying a French Queen. He was also known as the Mad King!
